Is this tour in Halong Bay or Lan Ha Bay?

It is in Lan Ha Bay, south of Cat Ba Island. That water joined the expanded UNESCO World Heritage listing in 2023, so the landscape is the same karst system. What differs is traffic: Lan Ha carries far fewer day boats than the central Halong route. This tour does not visit Sung Sot Cave, Ti Top Island or Thien Cung Cave.

How long is the day in total?

This Lan Ha Bay day tour runs about 14 hours door to door. Pickup from Hanoi Old Quarter runs from 07:15 to 08:00, boarding Tropical Cruise is at 11:00, and drop-off in Hanoi is around 21:00. Cat Ba is further from Hanoi than Tuan Chau Harbour, which is why the day is longer than a standard central-bay trip.

Are the entrance fees included?

Yes, all of them. Admission to Trung Trang Cave, the Cat Ba National Park Museum and the bay itself is inside the $50 fare. You pay nothing at any gate. Personal expenses, bar drinks, tips and holiday surcharges are the only costs left on the day.

Can you swim and kayak on this tour?

Both are included, at the Tra Bau area. Kayaking runs year-round. Swimming is comfortable roughly from April to October, and most guests skip it between November and March because the water is cold. There is a jacuzzi and a water slide on board, plus a freshwater shower afterwards.

Is this better than a standard Halong Bay day tour?

It depends on what you want from the day. Lan Ha is quieter and better for swimming, and every admission is included. The trade-off is a longer day and more road time. The Halong Bay day tour from Tuan Chau is shorter and cheaper, and it reaches the famous caves.

What happens if the weather cancels the tour?

When the harbour authority suspends sailing, usually during storms between June and September, the tour does not run. You are offered another date or a full refund. Cancellations you make yourself are free more than 24 hours before departure and charged in full inside 24 hours.

Does this tour also visit Lan Ha Bay, not just Halong Bay?

Yes. Most Hanoi-based operators only run to Halong Bay, so a day trip that also reaches Lan Ha Bay is unusual on this route. The itinerary crosses from the Halong Bay side into Lan Ha Bay by boat, giving you both the well-known limestone islands and the quieter water further south, in the same 14-hour day.

What is the maximum group size on this tour?

This is a joined-group tour, combining travelers from different hotels onto shared boats, with up to 99 guests on board across the vessel rather than a small private group.

What time does pickup start from Hanoi, and when do I return?

Pickup starts at around 07:15 from hotels in the Hanoi Old Quarter, with drop-off back in the city at around 21:00. Since roughly five hours of the day is spent on the road each way, avoid booking an evening train, flight or dinner reservation for the same day.

Should I choose this tour or a Lan Ha Bay only day tour from Cat Ba?

Choose this tour if you're based in Hanoi and want to see both Halong Bay and Lan Ha Bay in a single long day, without needing to stay overnight on Cat Ba Island first. If you're already staying on Cat Ba or prefer a shorter, more relaxed day on the water focused on Lan Ha Bay alone, the Lan Ha Bay day tour departing from Cat Ba is the better fit.

Are meals included on this tour?

Yes, lunch on board is included in the tour price, along with drinking water throughout the day. Extra drinks and snacks purchased on board are usually paid separately.

Is this tour suitable for children and elderly travelers?

Yes, the tour is generally suitable for both, since most of the day is spent seated on the boat with optional swimming and kayaking rather than strenuous activity. Given the long day on the road (around five hours each way), let us know in advance if anyone in your group has mobility needs so we can advise on seating.

What should I bring on this tour?

Bring sunscreen, a hat, swimwear if you plan to swim or kayak, and a light jacket for the boat ride, since it can feel cooler on the water. Comfortable shoes, cash for extra drinks or souvenirs, and motion sickness tablets (if you're prone to seasickness) are also worth packing.

Why should I book directly with Beka Travel?

You're booking directly with the local crew who runs this boat, not a resold listing bundled by someone else. Our team on Cat Ba Island handles your questions, seat availability and any last-minute changes personally, from the day you book to the day you sail, and your booking supports a local, family-run business based on the island.

What is the difference between Ha Long Bay, Lan Ha Bay and Cat Ba Island?

Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay are two adjoining parts of the same limestone bay in northern Vietnam, with Cat Ba Island sitting between them. Ha Long Bay is the busier, more famous northern half; Lan Ha Bay is the quieter southern half, and Cat Ba town is where most Lan Ha Bay cruises depart from.
